Royal Raid 2012

Social Action and Eco-responsibility

This year, Royal Raid wishes through the event to attract the awareness of participants in environmental safeguarding, mainly through actions of communication.
The objective is to move towards a sustainable development:
- Local economic development - Environmental requirements / applications - Positive social repercussions

That is the reason why Royal Raid will combine environmental and social awareness with workshops at the finish line during the event.

The strong point during the workshop is the importance of organizations active in the valorization of the environment safeguarding: Nongovernmental organizations, private companies and associations, all having a common objective towards sustainable development.

Social awareness will be created by participation of Friends in Hope.

Environmental awareness will be created by participation of Mauritius Wildlife Foundation, Casela and Bel Ombre.

Comments: our appreciation to Medine and its vision – see hereunder what they are doing:

The Medine Group has been present in the west of Mauritius for a century and has recently made a strong commitment to bringing sustainable and respectful development in the area, as a member of the United Nations Global Compact. With the Fondation Medine Horizons (www.fondation-medine.org), Medine runs a series of actions to promote entrepreneurship and social integration, such as the Farmers' Market for local planters, in Bambous.

On the sugar estate, Medine has a 9-hectares Compost Park where it recycles and reuses part of the factory's bagasse, the vegetable and green waste, so as to preserves the fertility of soils and genetic diversity, and enable sustainable agricultural development. The factory has also recently invested in an electro-filter, in order to reduce the emission of polluting gases.
